Pelvic congestion syndrome (PCS)— also called pelvic venous insufficiency — is a chronic condition normally affecting young and middle age women in which faulty veins create back pressure to the pelvic organs including the uterus and ovaries leading to pain. PCS can also lead to changes in bowel and bladder emptying and painful intercourse. It is believed between 10-30% of all women presenting with chronic pelvic to their gynecologist have PCS. Fortunately, there are effective medical and minimally invasive treatments available.
